Phone Consultation When working with a psychologist, it can be challenging to find a clinician who is the right fit for you, along with being competent in treating the types of problems you are experiencing. Given this, we are happy to provide prospective patients with an initial, free, 15-minute phone consultation to help determine if our practice may be a good fit to help you. Patients deemed an appropriate fit will then be set up for an initial evaluation, where a clinician will more comprehensively assess your/your child's symptoms and discuss potential treatment recommendations.
Diagnostic Interview/Initial Evaluation Your initial appointment will be comprised of an interview that will comprehensively review the nature of the symptoms and problems you or your child are currently experiencing. This evaluation will also include obtaining information regarding your developmental and medical history, and any information regarding previous treatment. Please complete new patient intake forms prior to your initial appointment, which will be available to complete via a secure, HIPAA-compliant patient portal, once your initial intake is scheduled. If it seems that you/your child would be an appropriate fit for treatment at the Jacob Center, we will briefly review an individualized treatment plan at this initial appointment.
Outpatient Therapy Outpatient therapy is generally provided on a once-weekly basis, though the frequency of sessions may vary depending on the nature and the extent of current difficulties, as well as treatment progress. Clinicians at the Jacob Center for Evidence-Based Treatment primarily conduct cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), including use of exposure therapy, exposure and response prevention for OCD (ERP), and habit reversal training (HRT) in the treatment of our patients. Our providers use evidence-based treatment approaches, which means that the treatment strategies we use are supported by significant empirical research.
Intensive Treatment Intensive outpatient treatment may be an option for patients who lack access to a trained cognitive-behavioral therapist in their area, or for patients whose symptoms are causing significant interference with functioning due to symptom severity. A typical course of intensive treatment involves participating in daily therapy sessions, 5 days per week (for either 60- or 90-minutes per day), for a period of approximately 3 weeks. However, the exact length of treatment may vary depending on the nature of your symptoms and therapy progress, and thus exact treatment length will be flexibly tailored to each individual patient. Intensive treatment is often a good option for patients who wish to work intensively to make significant progress over a relatively short period of time. We primarily conduct intensive treatment for OCD, but intensive treatment may be offered for other disorders or symptoms for which it is deemed an appropriate option. If patients are coming from out of town and need assistance with travel arrangements/planning, please call our office to obtain further information.
Videoconferencing/Telehealth Appointments (only available to patients within the State of Florida due to Psychologist Licensing Laws). Internet-based treatment via videoconferencing may be particularly useful for individuals who do not have access to a trained cognitive-behavioral provider in their area, or if an individual is housebound due to their illness. Sessions may occur via videoconferencing if deemed appropriate. Of note, although some research supports the use of videoconferencing technology, the effectiveness of video conferencing has not been fully established and therefore is not intended to take the place of face-to-face sessions if a qualified provider is available in your community.
Interdisciplinary Care Dr. Jacob believes in an integrated treatment approach, and our clinicians will gladly work with other professionals (e.g., psychiatrists, physicians, teachers) to facilitate comprehensive healthcare for patients. Oftentimes, this may be necessary as it may be challenging for patients to communicate the nature of their problems to other professionals.

The group is facilitated by a Teen Ambassador and Advocate for the International OCD Foundation. All participants must have a parent/guardian fill out a consent form. Please note that this is a support group, and thus it is not a service that will offer therapy or crisis support to group attendees. Currently, the group meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month. Please call or email our office for more information. Click this LINK for the flyer.
