SPACE focuses on training the parents/caregivers to better support their child with anxiety or other emotional problems. It also helps them break the cycle of accommodating and enabling behavior. Although many of these parent-focused strategies are incorporated into child treatment, regardless, SPACE can be used if the child is resistant or unwilling to participate in treatment, as well as if there are a high level of parent accommodating behaviors.
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an evidence-based treatment for children with behavior problems. Therapist provide real-time, in-the-moment "coaching" on skills to help manage child behavior.
